This document describes the cutlines used to identify at-risk children. The higher a student’s score on the Dyslexia Screen, the greater the degree of risk (probability) that they are Dyslexic.
The cutlines are based on extensive longitudinal research. This research established the basic divide between students who have “Developed” (D) reading skills appropriate to their age and those “Still Developing” (SD) and therefore evidencing signs of significant struggle.
Every student is scored on a Dyslexia Risk Index that ranges from 0 to 100.
❗NOTE: A score of 0 (zero) is the lowest risk score, and the length of the score bar is 0, so there will be no green bar for a score of 0 (zero)
❗NOTE: A score of -1 indicates that a student took the assessment but Amira was unable to produce a valid score based on limited or no student performance data (typically for Early Readers still learning letters and sounds)
The cutlines for students by grade are shown in the table below.
Amira recommends that Districts employ the "Red" cut line as the basis for state reporting. Based on the latest norming analysis done in the summer of 2020, the cut scores for 2021 are 34 for Kindergarten students and 37 for Grades 1 to 3. In other words, students at or above the cut scores are classified into the At Risk group.
Some students may have no DRI score and instead may be labeled with the status of UNDER REVIEW. This assessment status label indicates recent assessment activity that is under review and may display for up to 72 hours after an assessment has been completed.
