The Diagnostic Report can be used to understand how to help students perform within their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). If you're interested in training or self-paced learning resources for the Diagnostic Report, refer to our slide deck presentation or video (8 min).

The Diagnostic Report summarizes performance from the most recent Benchmark assessment in terms of key dimensions of the reading pillars from the Simple View of Reading Framework: Phonological Awareness, Sight Recognition, Vocabulary, and Decoding. The report also provides actionable ideas for helping students while targeting a student's Zone of Proximal Development. The metrics are described in further details here.

Access the Diagnostic Report

  1. From the Teacher Portal, click Reports

  2. Select the DIAGNOSTIC REPORT

  3. Choose a student from the menu

NOTE: Long list? Type the first few letters of a student's first or last name to quickly find a student.

NOTE If your class has multiple grades levels, Amira defaults to Grade 1 national benchmarks the first time you log in. Change the value in the Benchmarks field to match the grade of students you are viewing. Amira remembers the last grade you chose when you next log in.

Analyses and Suggestions

Analyses and suggestions are divided into three categories: Likely Mastered, Appropriately Challenging, and Very Challenging. Every time you open or refresh the page, three new items are added to the columns.

The three categories are described in further detail below:

  • Likely Mastered - items identified as Likely Mastered are inferred from analysis of student reading

  • Appropriately Challenging - suggestions under Appropriately Challenging are within the student's Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and are appropriate for targeted instruction

  • Very Challenging - items labeled Very Challenging are outside of a student's Zone of Proximal Development and are not (yet) appropriate for instruction

NOTE: Students with high Amira Reading Estimated Age (AREA) scores may not display Very Challenging options.

If you would like to display examples of open-sourced resources in the Diagnostic Report, complete the Configuration Survey or email support@amiralearning.com. Depending on district access and configuration, other resources for specific curriculum (such as Into Reading) or state-specific resources (like the Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI)) may be displayed here.

Actionable Suggestions for Helping Students

Phonological Awareness

Amira analyzes student reading to the phoneme level and suggests phonemes in the Phonological Awareness tab, so you can understand what students may have mastered and what you might use in targeted instruction.

Sight Recognition

Amira's analyzes the probability that a student has mastered sight words based on the student's assessment reading. Amira then suggests sight words that the student has likely mastered and identifies words that can be used in targeted instruction to help the student master important sight words.

Vocabulary

Amira estimates the number of words in a student's expressive vocabulary based on reading performance and generates lists of words that the student has likely mastered and that are appropriate for targeted instruction. Use the words on the list to help the student grow vocabulary knowledge.

Decoding

Amira analyzes student reading to identify decoding strategies that the student has likely mastered and strategies appropriate for the student's current development that you can use in targeted instruction to improve student's decoding ability.

  1. Right click or open the browser's print option

  2. Adjust system print options, as needed

  3. Click Print

Saving the Diagnostic Report as a PDF

  1. Right click or open the browser's print option

  2. Select PDF in the printer or destination field

  3. Click Save

  4. Adjust PDF options, like layout, as needed

  5. Choose a location where you want the PDF to be saved

  6. Click Save
