Watch this brief video or follow the steps below:
1. Install Latest iOS Version
Amira performs best on an iPad with iOS 13 or higher. To install, make sure your device is plugged in and connected to the Internet. Then, follow these steps:
Go to Settings > General > Software Update
Tap Download and Install
2. Clear History or Enable Private browsing
Safari is the only browser compatible with Amira on an iPad. Make sure students are using the Safari browser.
Select the Settings icon on the home screen
Find Safari within the menu options along the left side of the screen
Select Clear History and Website Data > Clear
If you prefer not to clear your iPads history and website data, you could also use a private window within Safari
Tap the new page button
Tap Private, then tap Done.
3. Always Allow the Microphone
To avoid access issues, we encourage you to enable the Safari browser to Always Allow use of the microphone. On iPads with iOS 13 or higher, adjust the System Preferences to recognize your device’s internal microphone.
Scroll down to "Settings for Websites" and click Microphone
Choose Allow to allow the use of the microphone without permission every time you visit a website.
4. Disable Pop-Up Blockers
Amira will open from HMH Ed in a new tab in Safari, so disabling the Safari pop-up blocker is essential.
Toggle Block Pop-ups to off
5. Disable Auto-Lock
Amira Practice has infrequent prompts for students to interact with the screen. As a result, the iPad may "go to sleep" if the auto-lock settings are not adjusted. To adjust the auto-lock timing,
Go to Settings
Find Display & Brightness in the left navigation bar
